In our classroom we want to see more...Engagement, Collaboration and Choice!
I asked my students, "Describe your ideal classroom."
|
In my math class, we use whiteboards for a lot of our lessons. The whiteboards I have been using are leaving marker on our tables and a residue on the boards we are using. I was inspired by this set of whiteboards with great storage and great size. I am really thinking something like this will be extremely useful in the classroom.
The day our group spent visiting classrooms was imperative in this classroom renovation process. I enjoyed talking with the teachers and students in their spaces. In the high school we visited I was looking for the different ways teachers organized the furniture and the choices they made for each classroom. I especially liked the different leveling of the desks for students in the back of the room. In the elementary setting, I noticed the space the students had to move around. The students transitioned quickly and efficiently during activities. I was impressed by the mobility of 50 students at once! I asked a few fourth graders what they liked the best about their classroom and they said they really like the soft and comfortable furniture. It was a great experience to see these classrooms in action!
EMPATHY ACTIVITIES--What Bugs You? and Mood Boards
Ask seventh and eighth graders what bugs them in schools and classrooms and they will not disappoint!
Students are seeking more activities and white boards on the desks and tables. Students like calm colors and a comfortable feeling. They want it to feel welcome and comfortable. They would like the opportunity to paint some inspirational quotes on the walls. --Live the life you love.-- They would like to keep the desks but would like some more comfortable chairs that spin. They would like to have desks that are not connected to chairs.
