Top Five Reflections
1. Movement: I have learned how important it is to create a space for students to move. My students enjoy activities where they are moving around and working together. I want my students to be able to move their desk around to see better and then easily transition into a small group setting.
2. Comfort: Comfort is so much more important than I ever realized. I am hoping the classroom will become more comfortable for the students and create a better learning environment. This was the number one takeaway my students and I noticed when we hung up their mood boards side by side. Everyone said, I see comfortable chairs and the colors light blue and pink.
3. Empathy: I feel like I really got to know my students more throughout the Empathy activities we did in class. When I asked my students to create mood boards they brought in things from home, printed things off the Internet and I only gave them one day notice. My students took ownership on their classroom and this was exciting to me. Their mood boards all showed me how important comfortable chairs and "mood" can effect a learning environment.
4. Simplicity: I really need to start simplifying the clutter in my classroom. When I stop and look around there is so much stuff I do not use very often. I need to start making some decisions about items and getting rid of outdated classroom materials.
5. Collaboration: It is so important for students to learn how to work together better. I never realized how much the furniture in a room can be a hindrance to the students working together. Furniture that is easy to move around will help students work together more efficiently.
